Celebrate Volunteers!!

I contacted my family by phone and learned they were on their way. I wanted to be with my kids but they weren’t really close yet. I wasn’t comfortable waiting so I entered World Showplace without them. I filed in with the rest of the bloggers and found myself a seat. Balloons covered the stage and were dispersed throughout the room like white clouds with touches of bright rainbow splashes. Once again I was ooo-ing and ahh-ing at my surroundings. I was so happy to be there.

After most of the bloggers were seated, the volunteer families were led in to their chairs. We stood and cheered as they walked past. I couldn’t help but be filled with appreciation and admiration for what they do…without even knowing specifically what they’ve done.

The JAMMitors started the ball rolling with an upbeat, snappy rap. They’re truly a crowd pleaser and can be found performing in Future World of EPCOT usually near Mission Space.

Following the short musical performance, Walt Disney World ambassador, Clay Shoemaker took the stage to begin the unveiling tease. Kermit the Frog and Sweetums emerged from backstage to assist him. Thomas Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts joined the threesome in playful banter before turning over the reigns to Ty Pennington and his signature megaphone.

The tease continued with Ty as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto and Goofy came out to add to the fun.

Then finally the moment arrived. At Ty’s request, the entire room chanted, “Move those balloons!” The clusters of balloons floated to the ceiling exposing a massive Guinness World Record setting canned food sculpture. It was impressive! We were invited to come closer for a better look as the presentation came to an end.

As the bloggers and volunteers dispersed, I rejoined my family for some free time. We headed to Future World for lunch at Sunshine Season Terrace. It’s one of my favorite quick service locations. There are enough options to please my group and we never have trouble finding a place to sit. Next, we put our Fastpass Exchange card to good use riding Soarin’ and Living with the Land repeatedly before returning to World Showplace for our volunteer venture.

I tried to help with the dismantling of the sculpture but felt invisible as I was continually overlooked. It was a bit disorganized but there was a very good response from the volunteers. I felt useless and decided to leave with the younger kids, but my oldest son was in his element and stayed to the end.

We cleaned up and rested back at the Polynesian Resort until it was time to head back to EPCOT. We were attending a private dinner party in honor of the volunteer families.

DISCLOSURE: I received a deeply discounted vacation package for myself and my family to attend Disney’s Social Media Moms Celebration.
