I have a ceramic top table which is pretty, but the grooves between the tiles can be a problem when a smooth surface is required. To resolve this issue for my #DisneySide Celebration, I came up with an inexpensive, decorative table top cover.

And when I say inexpensive…I mean that this project cost me literally nothing. I spent zero dollars…made it entirely from items I have on hand. It was super easy to put together too.

When I take on a project, I have an idea of what I want in mind, then I put it together from my head as I go along. I wing it! So, I grabbed a large cardboard moving box, a couple rolls of Mickey Mouse contact paper, scissors and a roll of packing tape.

I initially planned to use a single layer of cardboard by cutting my box down to the proper dimensions, but when I realized that the flattened box was almost the exact size of my table, I decided a double layer would be better–sturdier. I removed the top and bottom flaps of the carton with my kitchen scissors. A box cutter would be a better tool (choice if you’re comfortable using one), but I don’t happen to have one here in Florida yet.

As it turned out, I didn’t need both rolls of paper. One roll covered the entire top side. I kept a small margin of paper hanging over the cardboard edges and folded it over onto the back of my new table cover. To help secure the contact paper edges on the backside, I used clear packing tape around the perimeter.

That’s it! Project completed. I have a smooth surface on my table that fits the theme of my party and it wipes clean with a damp cloth. Seriously simple, delightfully decorative and totally utilitarian!
